So what exactly is this?
In the summer of 2010 I made a list of 101 things I want to do in 1001 days. Not my original idea, but a concept I think is really fun.
So, those 101 things…
Some are little things I’ve always wanted to do, but never got around to (going to Kings Canyon National Park, making donuts).
Some are fun ways to spend a Saturday morning (yoga class, pedicure).
Some are challenges that I’m just excited to try (no Target month?! Yikes!).
When does this start?
October 11, 2010.
10-11-10 is a pretty cool date and it happens to be the day I turn 26, so it only seemed appropriate to do something to acknowledge it.
How long is 1001 days? When will this end?
1001 days is about 2.75 years, making the deadline Monday, July 8, 2013, or 07-08-13, which isn’t that cool of a date.
And this world in 1001 days from now?
The Harry Potter movies will all be out on DVD (if I still use that). The London Olympics will be over. A presidential election will have passed. My hair will probably be a bit longer and most certainly grayer (not that I will notice). I’ll be 28 and 3/4 . Yikes.
Why these balloons on a bookmark?
Short story: Balloons and bookmarks are fun.
Long story: When I was five, my mom and I started reading the Little House series—a chapter or two each night, before bed. I loved the books and it became my ultimate goal to finish the series. Just as we were starting the Little House on the Prairie, my kindergarten had a book fair and, along with a big stack of books, my mom let me pick out a bookmark. I chose one with Clifford the Big Red Dog holding a bunch of balloons. We used that bookmark to hold our spot all the way through the end of The First Four Years.
Fast forward about twenty years. I’m trying to figure out a name for this whole shindig and am coming up completely empty. I wanted something easy to spell, unique, and nonspecific. As I’m racking my brain, I see a bookmark on my desk.
This makes me think of my awesome bookmark collection in my childhood desk at home.
This reminds me of my awesome Clifford bookmark with the balloons and how much fun it was to read through those Little House books and how exciting it was to complete my far off goal.
And, much like the person who gave the mouse a cookie, this brings me full circle, reminding me of 101 in 1001. Hence the balloons on a bookmark.
